Word Power
By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. -
Hebrews 11:3
The ability to express ourselves depends not only on our willingness to speak, but also on the words we use and how we put them together to convey our ideas and their importance.
The course of history is frequently determined by the ability of people to persuade others that their ideas are best. Over all, word-power is more effective than military might.
But human word-power pales into insignificance when compared to God’s Word-power. At the beginning of time, God called all things into being by the power of his Word. Everything came into existence, not by a chance process of change from one substance to another, but by God using his powerful Word. He said, “Let there by light,” and there was light (
Genesis 1:3). In the same way, “the universe was formed at God’s command.” He spoke and it all came into being just as he determined. All this took place not over eons of time, but in 6 days that were no longer or shorter than the days that we live in.
Therefore, the Christian confesses: I believe in God the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
Prayer:
Almighty God, I praise you for your wisdom and power with which you brought all things into existence, including me. Help me submit my life to your loving care. Continue, I pray, to provide for all the things that I need to keep my body and soul healthy. Amen.
